How to regrow teeth

Dentistry is not restricted to simply drilling and filling your teeth. Some recently published dental research used  the Zetasizer Nano for a project that aims to use molecular technology to restore teeth in future.
Restoring your enamel
Tooth enamel is one of the few substances in the body which is not dynamic i.e., is not changed and restored during your lifetime. Once you lose an adult tooth, it’s gone forever. However, new research from the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences, School of Dentistry at the University of California, San Francisco …

Houston opening goes with a swing…

As President of the Americas Operation for Malvern Instruments, it was my great pleasure on 19 March to welcome a whole host of people to the celebrations that marked the opening of our new multi-purpose facility in Houston, Texas. While the weather outside may have been stormy, the atmosphere and mood inside the building couldn’t have been warmer as we declared this first-class facility open and welcomed Malvern’s Houston team to their new home, helped along by the superb Mariachi Band you see in the photo – pictured with some …

Have you checked out the Malvern website recently?

I’d like to recommend to anyone who hasn’t visited the Malvern website this month to take a fresh look: http://www.malvern.com/
While we decided not to make a big song and dance about it, the website has recently undergone a major redesign and the many people who have explored it since it went live on 1 March are telling us  that they like what they see. It is, of course, a work in progress, with lots more to come. However, the initial re-styling and re-structuring has already had a huge impact.
Find what …

Confessions of a cartoon owner

Sidney Harris; maybe a name you’ve not heard of, but you’ll certainly know his cartoons if you’re of a scientific bent – although Rolf and Richard Harris are probably more famous. As it turns out, being based in New Haven, CT, Sidney is quite local to us here in Westborough, MA.
Anyway, I have a confession to make to my wife, Wendy, and this public forum may be one way of doing this… (Perhaps it’s better to talk to her directly, but in this modern age, why bother when we can  …

The WOW factor!

PITTCON 2012… it’s day 3 in Orlando and we are getting used to the reaction from both loyal customers and those new to Malvern’s Mastersizer range.
In reverse order, our top three comments so far are:
In 3rd spot: Great design, spot on with the specs, exactly what I’ve been waiting for!
At number 2: I really like what you have done with the interchangeability of the sampling accessories!
But top of the tree, and our clear number 1 is: “WOW! How did you make it so small?”
There is something truly satisfying when all the …

Ready, Set, Go!

On an unseasonably wet, cool and windy Sunday in Orlando, the Malvern team at Pittcon 2012 completed building the booth and installing (amongst other things) two shiny new Mastersizer 3000 systems. By late afternoon all was ready, and my colleagues were talking excitedly about what’s in store this week… with interest from the market already high for the new Mastersizer 3000, everyone is expecting a busy time. Check back later in the week to hear how things are going – and, for those of you reading the blog in Florida, …

Method development matters

Anyone visiting the Malvern booth at Pittcon will I hope find themselves not only admiring the sleek design of the Mastersizer 3000 laser diffraction particle size analyzer but also looking much further into how this innovative new system streamlines and simplifies the practicalities of particle sizing.
Nowhere is this more evident than in method development, a crucial process for applying any analytical technique that ensures that subsequent measurements are simply a matter of routine. The Mastersizer 3000’s intuitive browser-style software, embedded applications intelligence and real-time feedback on all measurements serve to …

Is automated DSV set to halt the U-tube trend?

That’s U-tube (Ubbelohde Tube) – not YouTube!
Automated Dilute Solution Viscometry (DSV) systems directly measure the relative viscosity of dilute polymer solutions, allowing the determination of intrinsic viscosity, a parameter that correlates with molecular weight, itself a defining polymer characteristic. Safer, and more accurate than  traditional glassware methods it is easy to find yourself wondering why anyone wouldn’t want to switch to an automated system.
Safer….
The Viscotek DSV solution uses advanced pressure sensing technology and ASTM-approved methodology in a closed loop system. It combines automated sample preparation and low solvent consumption with …

Round the world in webinars

Although this is my first time on the blog, in my role as Malvern’s Marketing Communications Manager for the Americas, mine is probably a familiar name (and face!) to many Malvern customers.  Right now, as I continue to update our 2012 webinar schedule – adding even more offerings to the list – I really appreciate how truly global Malvern has become. The growing number of flags on the online web seminar schedule are varied enough to make the page more colourful than ever before.
More than 70 webinars on offer
With more than …
