Characterization of the Size and Molecular Weight and Oligomeric State of Proteins using the Malvern Zetasizer Systems in batch and flow modes
The Malvern Zetasizer series of instruments are well established for characterization of the size, molecular weight and oligomeric state of proteins in solution. This presentation discusses the capabilities and performance of the Malvern Zetasizer Nano and µV systems for these measurements. These systems also have the ability to measure those properties in both …

A great deal happened in 2012. CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) announced the discovery of the Higgs Boson, London hosted a spectacular Olympics and the Malvern blog notched up its 2nd birthday! From lasers and light scattering to viscometers and volcanoes, it was an incredible year at Malvern. So, as we begin 2013 I’d like to say a big thank you to all the authors who have contributed to our blog and to making it such a success. I’m looking forward to reading more this year, from the serious …

Switching from manual operation to fully automated real-time monitoring and advanced process control
Few years ago Vulcan Materials Company upgraded its cement finishing circuit by installing an Advanced Process Control (APC) solution from Pavilion Technologies, a Rockwell Automation company, and real-time particle size analysis from Malvern Instruments. Together these solutions have transformed operation, highlighting more productive control strategies and delivering major gains, including:
A 15% improvement in one-day strength (although the plant is now targeting a 10% lower Blaine)
A 20% reduction in specific energy consumption, the amount of energy used to mill …

An earlier blog included a rare picture of me in a hard hat, during a visit to a cement customer site in Italy. At the time I couldn’t give any more details about the visit because we were still working to develop the story.
Now, I can – because the news is out A good day for me because it makes me both proud and happy to see such a useful and interesting customer story published.
Improving cement manufacture
The original picture was taken at the Sacci S.p.A site in Tavernola which is …

Hello, my name is Severine Michel and I am the Marketing Executive for Process Systems. As you might have guessed from my name I’m French, but as I’ve now lived in Malvern for almost ten years England feels like home. The weather here can sometimes be a bit miserable and I wish I could speak English as easily and perfectly as my children but other than that I’ve got few complaints. Malvern is a really nice town to live in.
I handle all the marketing activities for the Process team at …
