To support the growing interest in Malvern PANalytical technologies for use in the food and drink industry, we held a joint free seminar devoted to this extremely important industry sector. This took place on Wednesday, June 8th in the Marriott Hotel Schaumburg, Chicago and saw more than 20 enthusiastic attendees from the food industry attend for an applications-focused set of presentations stressing the importance of Malvern PANalytical’s  complementary analytical techniques and the value they add to this sector.  We kicked off with a ‘Deluxe Continental Breakfast’ as befitting the attendees.

I recently presented a webinar exploring the practical aspects of sieving method – the advantages and disadvantages.  I compared the method to other techniques such as laser diffraction indicating the increased wealth of information that can be obtained with these more modern instrumental techniques and the common pitfalls and assumptions of the screening technique.

In September 2016 Malvern Instruments co-organized a European MicroCal meeting with Institut Pasteur and ARBRE European molecular biophysics network. The meeting was very successful and sparked animated discussions during scientific presentations, panel and poster sessions and interactive workshops.  A key focus was on best practice for experimental design and data analysis to ensure high-quality data and informed decisions that help drive scientific projects forward.

Malvern organise des formations en collaboration avec la société SDTech Micro et SDTech Nano, son partenaire technique depuis 7 ans.

SDTech Micro, situé à Alès, est spécialisé dans l’analyse et le traitement à façon des poudres fines et ultrafines.

This week is the Annual European Rheology Conference (AERC) held in beautiful Copenhagen. It has been a great conference so far with the opening reception at the City Hall – what an impressive building.

How can I use DLS for sample xyz?
What sample concentration / refractive index is needed for reliable DLS size measurements?

Has it been done before?
In Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) intensity fluctuations in the sample are analyzed to obtain size information on the sample. The technique is applicable to a wide size range from sub-nanometer up to a few microns. In order to obtain a meaningful result, a minimum scattering signal strength must be present. Malvern’s Zetasizer Nano software contains a calculator to help estimate the required minimum concentration.

Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is an established biophysical tool for protein stability characterization during drug development.
