With Pre-Conference Workshop on Biophysical Characterization and Particle Analysis

Date: July 17th – 20th.
We at Malvern know that protein stability is important in numerous disciplines, ranging from basic and medical biochemistry to pharmaceutical sciences. However, it is rare that researchers from all the relevant areas can join to discuss the critical issues in the field. The 2017 Colorado Protein Stability Conference provides a unique forum for this exchange of information. The topics to be covered include protein folding, dynamics and thermodynamic stability; amyloidosis and protein aggregation; and stability, formulation, analysis and processing …

Over the past week I’ve had a lot of fun working with Malvern’s team in China to deliver a series of seminars designed to help researchers engaged in pharmaceutical product development. These meetings focused on how Malvern’s material characterization systems can help those developing and manufacturing oral solid dose formulations. During the seminar series, we had the privilege of meeting with well over 200 customers, providing us with the chance to learn about the challenges they are facing in product development, as they seek to select APIs and excipients which …

Component-specific Particle Size
Follow that particle!

I’ve always thought it would be great to be the innocent driver in a movie chase scene who has to respond to the hero’s demand to ‘Follow that car’ as they try to keep tabs on the villain. I always imaged that this would unlock the silent racing driver within me, giving me the excuse to forget about speed limits and drive at the limits of my car’s performance. I’d also get the chance to practice my handbrake turns!
Although I have never been engaged in a …

MDRS Technology
Finally!  After what has felt like one of the wettest and longest winters in memory here in the UK, we’re now heading into the long, mellow days of midsummer.
But casting its miserable shadow over the barbecues, school holidays and paddling pools is the dreaded allergy season.  As one of the downsides of life in our “green and pleasant land”, during June we are hit hard by the combined impact of pollen from trees, grasses and weeds.
Many of us are now taking a daily antihistamine of some sort, and others …

Hello!  A few months ago I blogged about my up and coming visit to Australia and I promised to let you know if I made it to the top of the Sydney Harbour bridge – I am not sure where the time as flown to since then but I thought it was about time I let you know how the trip went.
One of the reasons I headed down under was to give 12 seminars; 4 each in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane – the team at ATA Scientific did a great …

I am really looking forward to my next trip as it is somewhere I have never been before. The sale of a Morphologi G3-ID in Australia to Southern Cross University has finally given me the opportunity to go and visit which is very exciting!
I will be heading over to give training on the newly installed system at the Southern Cross Geoscience research center. The group undertakes innovative research that contributes to the understanding and improved management of land and water resources with particular reference to the impact of human activity.
To …

A new year brings a new job for me as Product Manager for Malvern’s Analytical Imaging range. This brings exciting challenges to think about possible new products and find new applications for our current ones. So that brings me over to Seattle to the American Academy of Forensic Science 66th Annual Scientific Meeting.
On Monday I attended the ‘Applications of Raman Spectroscopy for trace evidence examinations’ workshop chaired by Patrick Buzzini of West Virginia University. There was a really informative introduction to Raman spectroscopy given by Edward M Suzuki which explained …

Edinburgh works its magic again

As we come to the end of another fascinating and truly illuminating Drug Delivery to the Lungs conference here in Edinburgh, I’m delighted to report that this year the snow has stayed on the hills, but it has been rather windy. I’m very much hoping it will calm down so I have  a trouble-free trip as I head south this afternoon.

Anne Virden and I love coming to DDL as there are so many opportunities to talk to people who are doing really interesting work in inhaled product development. Many people …
