With their shallow root systems, potatoes are highly susceptible to both drought and heat. Drought reduces both the amount of foliage as well as inducing early leaf senescence. Similarly, heat stress also results in early leaf senescence. Since foliar abundance and function directly impact tuber formation and growth, drought and heat stress negatively impact yields.

Malvern Panalytical recently hosted an ASD webinar presentation titled, “Precision Agriculture & Ground Truthing using Spectral Signatures.” This webinar was delivered by Keynote Speaker Christopher Crockett of Highland Precision Ag, and featured a section focusing on Christopher’s research involving the detection and prediction of two-spotted spider mite (TSSM) infestation levels on strawberry leaves using the ASD FieldSpec® 4 High-Resolution Spectroradiometer.

90% of the United States began the year of 2018 with freezing temperatures.
The Northeast has recently experienced a massive winter snowstorm, referred to as a “bomb cyclone“. Record cold temperatures, not felt since 1884, are being experienced in Boston. The ASD FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res NG provides enhanced spectral resolution to support accurate calibration and image classification analysis.
Higher resolution hyperspectral sensors yield greater precision for remote sensing classification applications, producing more information from every pixel generated in an image than ever before. In order to take advantage of the full potential of these sensors, measurements from ground-based instrumentation need to meet or exceed the sensor’s spectral resolution. In the absence of this resolution equality, data are interpolated during post-processing; as a result, vital spectral information can be smoothed and lost.
