There is a lot of discussion at the moment about the unprecedented situation we are experiencing around the globe due to the spread of COVID-19. Life in my hometown of Worcester, UK has significantly changed and is likely to continue to do so. We have:
- Locked-down schools
- Locked-down churches
- Locked-down sports facilities
- Locked-down waste management services
- Locked-down coffee shops (I need coffee!!)…
…and alongside all of this, I find myself, as with many of my Malvern Panalytical colleagues, locked-down and working from home, as the company acts to ensure the safety of its employees while maintaining its critical capability to serve our customers.
So, what should the response to this lock-down be? Well, to release something of course!
And so, I found myself last week, working with a team in lock-down across the world, launching a new service for Malvern Panalytical’s customers. I was hermetically sealed into a room at our Malvern headquarters in the UK, where I knew I could get a good internet connection. Two of my colleagues joined the launch from their homes, accompanied by a chorus of laughing and, occasionally, screaming children (real-life breaks into work, I love it!). And our webinar host was holed-up in a local hotel as the internet connections both at her home and in the office had failed (huge thanks, Hampton Inn in Westborough MA, for free internet, coffee and hospitality in the service of science!).
So, what did we release?
At Malvern Panalytical we have always worked hard to support our customers in the practical use of the techniques we develop and manufacture, as it not only ensures our customers gain the most value from their investment in our instruments but also helps us understand how we can develop better technologies. However, we recognize that, in laboratories and research facilities across the industry, our customers often no longer have the time to develop a very deep understanding of our techniques. In response, we have launched a new service in partnership with our colleagues at Concept Life Sciences, enabling us to provide method development and validation support. We can also work with our customers to help justify their investment in our measurement systems by investigating the value of the data we provide. Our goal is to rapidly find the most appropriate solution to address a specific customer problem and then to partner with the customer to directly deploy the required instruments and methods. We see this as important in enabling our customers to quickly get ‘up and running’ – which of course ensures the value of the data is more rapidly realized. You can learn more about these services here.
So, how does this all impact our current situation of lock-down?
Well, Malvern Panalytical is working hard to determine how we can best maintain the critical analysis capabilities our customers rely on to ensure research and development continuity, even in these difficult times. Our new partnership with Concept Life Sciences is an important part of this commitment, enabling us to provide backup analytical services, alongside our continuing support for the implementation of new methods and approaches. We hope this will be of considerable help to many of our customers in this time of uncertainty.
Both at Malvern Panalytical and at Concept Life Sciences, we are all very excited by the opportunities this partnership can unlock. But in the end, it is you, our customers, who will really help us to develop and shape this new service! Tell us what you think, send us your suggestions and requests, and let us know how you would like to see Malvern Panalytical and Concept Life Sciences support you, both now and in the future. We look forward to partnering with you soon!
And in the meantime, enjoy this recording of the live launch webinar from your comfy chair, wherever you are locked-down!
